“She who kneels before God can stand before anyone”

Romans 8:31

There's no doubt that Covid-19 has created a multitude of different hardships for everyone but it is an especially difficult time to be engaged and to be moving towards your wedding date uncertain of what the world will be like tomorrow.

It can be easy to be absorbed by anxiety and discouragement but using this opportunity to grow your relationship with the Lord could turn out to be a huge blessing for your future relationship with your husband.

A most encouraging and peaceful way to ease stress is to read scripture, and to focus on the unchanging person and character of God, our sure source. In these next few blog posts, I hope to offer verses of strength and encouragement to those soon-to-be-brides and to give some resources that have helped me through difficult times.

Today, I have a few passages written out below followed by some notes. When I am stressed or have anxiety, I find it soothing to read these back to back. I hope they will help you to find comfort in God's presence and to find peace in knowing that He ultimately has everything under His control.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

"There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you [,God]; there is no Rock like our God." 1 Samuel 2:7
"Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:3-6

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake in its swelling." - Psalm 46:1-3 nkjv

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41:10

"The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing." - Zephaniah 3:17

"Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him" - Psalm 62:5

"You will seek me and find me when you
seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the Lord, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the Lord, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile." - Jeremiah 29:13-14

"Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always." - Psalm 105:4

"What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?" - Romans 8:31

"I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them." Isaiah 42:16

"But now, this is what the Lord says - he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. When you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned." Isaiah 43:2

"I have told you these things, so that in Me, you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]" - John 16:33 amp
"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand." - Romans 5:1-2

In Romans 5, Paul encouragingly characterizes the relationship Jesus hopes to share with us.

Jesus:
  • Is Strong Enough
  • Is Our Friend
  • He Loves on Us
  • He Wants to Take Our Problems and Worries
  • He is Trustworthy at All Times (even during Covid-19)
  • He is the Perfect Planner
  • He Knows Best
  • He is Always Constant
  • He Keeps Us from Being Lonely
Remember, He know exactly what He's doing! He is NOT surprised by this. Not only are His plans always perfect, but His timing is always perfect too! Trust in His timing even if it's hard to understand the purpose yet. He will reveal His purpose at the perfect time.

"Moses answered the people, 'Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still" - Exodus 14:13-14

Who knows what God is up to through all of this. When you and I are focused on abiding in Him, we are able to see the beauty in the midst of our pain. God uses pain to break our self-sufficiency and to hopefully get our focus on Him. Ultimately, we just need to Be Still and Know He is God. (Psalm 46:10)
